Apple and their Chinese suppliers

18 Jan

Random tech related blog post..

Was spurred by this post:

http://mashable.com/2012/01/13/apple-labor-conditions-report/

And I made this post on Facebook earlier this morning:

“If Apple wants to be a REAL leader. They’d force their suppliers in China to institute similar labor rights/practices as in the USA.. 8- hour work day, 40-hour work week, overtime pay, work conditions, health issues, etc… They don’t have to go so far as dictating wages… just simple, basic labor rights. Apple, as the 800lb gorilla in the room, would force change THROUGHOUT the electronics supply chain.”

If you haven’t already seen or listened to this, you NEED to:

This is a HUGE problem.  And if there is one company who can institute change across the industry, Apple is that company. They hold TREMENDOUS influence over their suppliers.

Probably one of the most egregious examples of an American company off-shoring labor to avoid our labor laws so they can benefit to the tune of excess Billions $$$$. Apparently it isn’t good enough to profit $35 Billion/year, they need to do what they can to profit $40 Billion/year.
