My House of Representatives reps are REALLY pissing me off

10 Dec

I’ve always voted for the two GOP reps for the two districts our home is located within… Buck McKeon and Kevin McCarthy.. Up until this last year or so, I’ve agreed with Rep. McKeon’s voting decisions, for the most part. But the last year, and especially the last 6 months, McKeon and ESPECIALLY Rep, McCarthy, have really begun pissing me off.

More and more, it has become evident they are both out of touch with the reality of their constituents. ESPECIALLY Rep. McCarthy. McCarthy is a PERFECT example of a Rep who has made it to D.C. and is now tied to the overall direction and agenda of the GOP. he no longer is representing the best interests of his constituents in Bakersfield/Antelope Valley, CA.

Rep. McCarthy lost my vote months ago with his continued and unashamed partisanship and blatant disregard for the best interests of his constituents.

McKeon has been walking a fine line….. I want to support him because I have viewed his representation of the Antelope Valley to be appropriate.. However, his recent decisions as the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, are not in the best interest of the long-term stability of our Nation (fear-mongering the “dangers” of slashing the DoD budget, etc.).. And the straw that has nearly broke my back is his support for the tying of the VERY controversial KeyStone XL pipeline to a proposed bill to extend the payroll tax cut.

One of the last things we need to do as a nation is to further enable our addiction to oil by constructing a transcontinental oil pipeline form the tar-sands of Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. If the GOP wants to create “tens of thousands of jobs” as they say the pipeline will create, then they need to direct their efforts to renewable energy initiatives, with PV and CSP solar plants, geothermal, and wind projects.

If they want to create jobs that may be able to activate more quickly, then spend money on energy efficiency. Put tens of thousands of MORE people to work retrofitting buildings and homes. Investment in efficiency pays dividends for decades down the line. If we have a $Billlion to spend, and our choice is to spend it on either a pipeline that will enable/allow us to simply spend more money on buying oil.. or to spend that money on REDUCING our spending on energy.. it is better to invest that money on long-term savings.

these politicians are becoming more and more comfortable with kicking the can down the road for the next generation to deal with the problem. This is done in an effort to keep their “jobs” as our reps… They have become MORE concerned with doing what they need to do in order to keep their job, than they are in actually doing what is in the best interest of their constituents and the Nation as a whole.

I could go on and on about this crap, but I’ll spare all of you. The above is just the tip of the iceberg. I don’t know about your Reps, but mine have dropped the ball BIG TIME and at least one of them has lost my support in future elections.
