New Compost Bin

8 Aug

After trying a number of different methods for a compost pile/bin, i finally broke down and built one based on plans found online.

here are some pics of the finished bin:

I’m hoping that this will finally allow the pile to start “composting” like it is supposed to. The low humidity of the desert doesn’t make this easy. But I need to try. The fresh compost next spring will help the garden IMMENSELY!

As for other garden updates… tomatoes are starting to ripen, green onions are ready to pick. Zuchinni are being harvested every few days or so. Melons are growing well.. My fall planting of tomatoes is growing well too. I’ll need to transplant them into 5-gallon containers soon.. and then start my winter tomatoes next month. This should ensure a continuous supply of fresh tomatoes all year! 🙂 Beats paying $4/pound for tasteless tomatoes at the store.

That’s it for today!
